    Key Takeaways

    1. 1
US Galaxy Availability: Samsung’s One UI 9 brings Android 17, video tools and privacy alerts to your Galaxy. US availability includes S26, S25, Fold8, Flip8, Fold7, Flip7 and selected S24, Fold6 and Flip6 versions, with timing dependent on your model and carrier.
    2. 2
Older Galaxy Support: Your Galaxy S23’s One UI 9 rollout began in South Korea on October 14, with no confirmed US date. One UI 9 is the S23’s final major Android upgrade, while the S22 series and S21 FE are excluded.
    3. 3
Prepare Before Installing: Before installing One UI 9, back up your Galaxy, charge the battery and use Wi-Fi for roughly 4GB. If you own an A57, consider waiting because startup failures have been reported, and the user-reported Safe Mode workaround is not guaranteed.

Your friend’s Galaxy has the new update, and yours still says you’re up to date. Sound familiar? The One UI 9 update, based on Android 17, is reaching US phones in batches, so your model and carrier both matter.

As of October 19, US availability includes the S26 family, Fold8 and Flip8 models, S25 family, Fold7, Flip7, S24 series, Fold6 and Flip6. That does not mean every version has received it yet. If you own an S23, its rollout began in South Korea on October 14, with no confirmed US date.

The One UI 9 Rollout So Far

You see, a rollout announcement does not mean every Galaxy gets a download that morning. Samsung began expanding One UI 9 in September, after its newest foldables arrived with the software already installed. To understand where your phone fits, follow the dates and the countries attached to them.

    1. July 22. One UI 9 debuted on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8. If you bought one, you received it as the original software.
    1. September 16. Samsung started the S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra rollout in South Korea. You should not read that announcement as a guaranteed US release date.
    1. September 28. The wider S26 rollout followed. Reports also place the S25, Fold7 and Flip7 rollout around this date, although their US availability was reported later.
    1. October 2. The Fold7 and Flip7 reached the US rollout stage. If you own either foldable, this is the reported US date to keep in mind.
    1. October 5. US availability was reported for the S25 family, including the S25 Edge and S25 FE. Your carrier could still affect when the download appeared.
    1. Around October 9. The S24 series, Fold6 and Flip6 began receiving One UI 9 in Korea. US owners had to wait a little longer.
    1. October 12. US reports confirmed updates for AT&T and T-Mobile S24 phones, plus factory-unlocked Fold6 and Flip6 models. Your exact version still mattered.
    1. October 13. Verizon rollout reports covered the Fold6, Flip6 and S24 FE. They did not confirm Verizon availability for your standard S24, S24+ or Ultra.
    1. October 14. The S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra started updating in Korea. If yours is a US model, you still have no confirmed release date.

Carrier and Unlocked Phones in the US

You might expect two US Galaxy phones with the same name to update together. The reports show why that expectation can leave you refreshing the update screen. Check your carrier and whether your phone was sold factory-unlocked against these confirmed cases.

    • AT&T. Updates have been reported for the S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra. That confirms availability for those models, although your individual phone may receive the download later.
    • T-Mobile. The S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra also have reported updates. If yours still shows no download, the rollout announcement does not guarantee immediate delivery to every handset.
    • Verizon. Confirmed reports cover the Fold6, Flip6 and S24 FE. Availability for the S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra remains unconfirmed, so you should not assume those models are included.
    • Factory-unlocked phones. The US Fold6 and Flip6 have received the update. Factory-unlocked S24 models were described as coming later, with no confirmed availability in the reports covered here.

If you want to compare firmware identifiers, these are the reported builds. Match the model and sales version before comparing yours.

    US phone versionReported firmware
    Carrier S24 UltraS928USQU6EZIF
    Factory-unlocked Fold6F956U1UEU4EZIH
    Factory-unlocked Flip6F741U1UEU4EZIH
    Verizon Fold6F956USQU4EZIH
    Verizon Flip6F741USQU4EZIH
    Verizon S24 FES721USQUEEZIF

    Download Size and Release Timing

Your download size can differ too. The reported US S24 Ultra package was 3,909.8 MB, roughly 4GB, with the September 5 security patch. Beta users may receive a smaller package, so a different size alone does not suggest a problem.

Why the wait? Carrier approval can affect release timing, alongside your model and market. Factory-unlocked status does not guarantee you get it first either, as the S24 reports demonstrate. Your friend’s update notification is encouraging, but it cannot tell you when yours will arrive.

Phones Still Waiting and Phones Left Out

Still waiting for your phone to appear on the list? A missing download can mean your US rollout has not started, your model has no confirmed date, or your phone has reached its final Android upgrade. Here is how you can tell those situations apart.

    Coming Soon

If you own a Galaxy S23, S23+ or S23 Ultra, One UI 9 has started reaching the same models in South Korea. That rollout began on October 14, with beta participants receiving it before other owners. You still have no confirmed US release date, so estimates about the next week or two remain estimates.

For your S23, Android 17 is also the fourth and final promised Android upgrade. That does not end security support, which continues into 2028. You can receive security patches after major Android upgrades stop.

Your S23 FE needs a separate caveat. Samsung names it among devices supporting Privacy Alerts, but its initial stable rollout remains unconfirmed. A reported end-of-October target has no verified Samsung announcement behind it, so you should not treat that deadline as promised.

If you use an A-series phone, availability depends on the exact model and country. The A57 has received One UI 9 in selected markets, while the A37 started in Korea on October 14. Reports describe beta testing for the A56, A55 and A36, without confirming US stable dates.

Your Galaxy Tab S11, Tab S10 or Tab S9 family also has no confirmed stable release date. A supported-feature listing alone does not tell you when a download will arrive.

    Not Getting It

If you own a Galaxy S22 series phone or S21 FE, One UI 8.5 was its final major upgrade. You should not expect the Android 17-based One UI 9 update through the normal rollout. If your phone is near the end of its updates, our Pixel 6 end of life guide shows what that stage looks like on another Android phone.

What’s New in One UI 9

Getting the update is one thing. Knowing what you will actually use is another. One UI 9 adds video tools, more personal information cards and privacy notices, although availability can vary by phone and country, so start with these changes. Scam protection on Android goes beyond Samsung too, as our guide to Android scam detection explains.

    • My FanCam. You can select someone in a recorded video and have the tool keep that person near the center. You need a Samsung Account, and some videos may not work well with it.
    • Now Brief cards. You can add and edit cards covering information such as health, weather and video. The feature requires a Samsung Account and uses information you have agreed to share, so your choices affect what appears.
    • Scam Detection. Samsung is extending scam-call detection to additional countries and languages, including Japan, Canada and India. Your access depends on your country, language, phone and software version, so installation alone does not guarantee it.
    • Privacy Alerts. On-device AI can flag background permission requests that appear unnecessary. Treat the notices as help when reviewing app access, since Samsung cautions that the feature cannot consider every relevant detail.
    • Security Brief. You can receive security and privacy notices within Now Brief, including warnings about malware, apps installed outside trusted stores and permissions an app may not need. That puts those notices alongside your other briefings.
    • Warranty and Care. You can check warranty details, run diagnostics, review repair estimates and manage Samsung Care+ or service bookings. Available services depend on your country, and some repairs may involve a deductible.
    • Quick Panel changes. Beta details describe more freedom to rearrange controls and resize sliders or the media player. A blue location indicator can also show when an app accesses your location, with app details available through the panel.

How to Install One UI 9

Ready to check your phone? You can request the update manually, although checking cannot make an unreleased carrier version appear. Before you begin, prepare for a download of roughly 4GB and some time without access to your phone.

    • Back up your data. Make a backup with Smart Switch or Samsung Cloud before installing. Do this while your phone is working normally, rather than leaving it until something goes wrong.
    • Charge your battery. Begin with a well-charged phone. At least 50 percent is the preparation level suggested in Samsung’s community guidance.
    • Use Wi-Fi. Connect to a reliable network before downloading. Some carriers require Wi-Fi even when you check for an update.
    • Check free storage. Allow room for the roughly 4GB download. Your package may be smaller if you participated in the beta, so the size does not have to match another owner’s.

Once you have completed those checks, follow these steps.

    1. Open your phone’s system menu and select Software update. On some carrier versions, you will see System updates instead.
    1. Choose Download and install. Your carrier may use Check for system updates or Check for software updates, so follow the equivalent option on your phone.
    1. If an update appears, review its details and start the download. Some versions ask you to select Download now before continuing.
    1. Follow the installation prompts and allow the phone to complete the process. You cannot use it during installation, including for emergency calls, so choose a suitable time.
    1. Afterward, open About phone, then Software information, to check your installed version. Check for updates again if another package is offered, since some updates require more than one installation.

If the phone still offers nothing, your rollout may still be pending. You can also check through Samsung Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac using USB.

Problems After the Update and What to Do

If your Galaxy acts up after updating, the exact symptom matters more than the version number alone. Some A57 owners have reported phones getting stuck during startup, including an “Access Denied” page or a screen filled with raw XML text. Here is what you can try, while keeping that specific problem separate from ordinary app trouble.

    • Check whether your symptoms match. Affected A57 owners have also reported being unable to get past the One UI 9 welcome screen. These complaints do not establish that every A57 is affected, and the same fault has not been confirmed on US S24, Fold6 or Flip6 models.
    • Try the reported Safe Mode workaround. Hold Power and Volume Down to open the power menu, then press and hold Power off until the Safe Mode option appears. Enter Safe Mode, then restart normally. Some users say this helped, but you should not count on it working for every affected phone.
    • Keep basic troubleshooting modest. If your phone reaches the home screen but an app misbehaves, restart the phone before trying anything more involved. You can try clearing the affected app’s cache, although that is not a verified repair for the A57 startup fault.
    • Contact Samsung if you remain stuck. Samsung has not provided a confirmed timetable for resolving the reported A57 issue. Its Smart Switch recovery option performs a factory reset, so understand the data loss involved before using it.

Haven’t installed yet? If you depend on your phone for work, waiting a few days gives you time to check early reports for your exact model. Back up before proceeding.

Should You Update Now or Wait

If your supported US Galaxy offers One UI 9, you can consider installing once you have a backup, enough storage and time to leave the phone unavailable during installation. You get Android 17 alongside Samsung’s new tools, although the features you receive depend on your phone, country and, in some cases, a Samsung Account. Before downloading, check the release details on your handset rather than assuming your experience will match a video showing the newest Galaxy. Give yourself a quiet window to complete the installation and check that your important apps still work afterward, especially if you use the phone for work.

If your phone is essential for work, waiting a few days is a reasonable choice, particularly when you cannot spare time to deal with an unexpected problem. You can use that pause to look for reports involving your exact model and carrier, then decide when the timing suits you. If you own an A57, take the reported startup problem into account, because the user-reported Safe Mode workaround is not a guaranteed solution. Those complaints deserve attention, but they do not establish the same fault on your S24, Fold6 or Flip6, where it has not been confirmed.

Still waiting on an S23 or an unconfirmed US variant? You do not need to keep checking simply because someone else received a notification, since another country’s release does not promise yours a date. Check occasionally, keep your backup current and wait for availability on your own phone rather than treating an estimated rollout window as a deadline. You can enjoy the new features when your turn arrives, with a little preparation already done and less uncertainty about what to expect. Thinking about a new Galaxy instead? FAQs

Is One UI 9 available in the US?

Yes, you can get One UI 9 on supported US Galaxy phones, including the S26 family, S25 family, Fold7, Flip7 and selected S24, Fold6 and Flip6 versions. The Fold8 and Flip8 models shipped with it already installed. Your exact model and carrier still determine whether the download is available to you.

Will the Galaxy S23 get One UI 9?

Yes, your Galaxy S23, S23+ or S23 Ultra is receiving One UI 9, with the rollout beginning in South Korea on October 14. No US release date has been confirmed. Android 17 is your S23’s final promised major Android upgrade, while security support continues into 2028.

Why hasn’t your Galaxy received the One UI 9 update yet?

You may still be waiting because Samsung releases updates at different times for each model, country and carrier. Even another US owner receiving it does not guarantee availability for your phone. Factory-unlocked status does not guarantee an earlier download either.

How big is the One UI 9 download?

You should expect roughly 4GB for a full update, although the size depends on your phone and its existing software. The reported US S24 Ultra download was about 3,910 MB. If you used the beta, your final update may be much smaller.

Can you go back to One UI 8 after updating?

You should not count on returning to One UI 8 through Samsung’s normal update process, because its update guide provides no official rollback procedure. Downgrading can erase your data. Make a backup before installing, especially if you are unsure about committing to the new version.

Is the Galaxy S22 getting One UI 9?

No, your Galaxy S22, S22+ or S22 Ultra is not scheduled to receive One UI 9. One UI 8.5 was the final major upgrade for that series. The S21 FE is also outside the One UI 9 upgrade group.
